Reviews for GlassWire Data Usage Monitor
I'll never own another phone without this app or another exactly like it. Ever wonder how many useless apps, most of which come pre installed, use data in the background? This app will monitor and report to you ANY application that uses your phones antenna or wifi instantly and keep log of it; as well as provide quick access to the settings of the offending app. Free up battery life and data easily and quickly. Plus, no more creepy adds from apps that spy on you.
I was just looking for a simple way to see if a device was downloading an update was going to uninstall afterwards. this does what I asked for and so much more, with an intuitive interface that makes it easy to use. The timeline with rolling hills to show data transfers is simple and clear at a glance information.
feedback team responsive, always work to fix my bugs. the app isn't prefect, but there are no ads and They actually work with you. the firewall works but may take some getting used to. if you have another app that has Draw Over permissions (such as Twilight) you need to turn that off momentarily while you activate the firewall in glasswire (or any firewall). then you can turn Draw Over permissions back on and leave them on.
I really like the Real Time graph of what are apps using mobile or Wi-Fi Internet & which ones are using up my data. The firewall stops apps from automatically connecting without your permission. It's really simple after a little difficulty in what & how to set it up, but once that's done, you don't even notice it's running except to notify you of an issue or to tell you how much data is being used. This is a great app! 5 Stars in my book!
Love this app, but more instructional info in the interface would be very helpful. I just selected an app in the firewall list, tapped apply and it was removed from the list. Why wasn't it just grayed out? Where did it go? How do I get it back? Some things shouldn't require a user guide when the interface itself is more informative. Sparse info on the screen does not necessarily make the interface better. But it can make it more confusing. A popup message would have been useful.
It's a great application if you don't already use a VPN. Since it has to create a local VPN to block access, unless your device is rooted, then you can't use a regular VPN service running as always on VPN or any other way I'm aware of. The application did exactly what it said and did it pretty well. It wasn't resource intensive but will effect battery life but that's to be expected. Overall it deserves more stars but since I cannot use it I just can't justify it.
Overall pretty clean look and feel. Significant issues: No custom data alerts, data plan graph period is short by a day ie. it says March 8th through April 6th (instead of through April 7th), custom data graph dates don't work, data plan graph won't isolate mobile or wifi usage, and no at-a-glance usage graph like My Data Monitor. However, they did add a cool new theme. Overall this feels like a beta release.
Free version doesn't have any of the features you'd want, those will all require a subscription to unlock. That said, I'd be happy to make a one-time purchase to unlock the 'Pro Features' but don't like the idea of a subscription, regardless of the current price. Sure it may be $4.99/year right now, but once next year rolls around what if it's more and my cc is automatically charged?
They've ruined this app. A year ago I used to use it to see what apps were spamming my connection when I was gaming so I could kill them and be lag free. I got a new phone and updated the app a couple months ago to discover that they've put the "speed meter" (i.e. the ticker that shows you inbound/outbound traffic) behind a paywall! And not only that, you can no longer see what's been using your connection in the past minute, or 10 minutes, the closest you can go is by the past 4 hours. Trash.
Version 3 is an utter Disaster for me! I relied on the minute, and 3 hour intervals, but they've been removed from version 3. I can't even side-load the APK from the previous version to un-do this mischief from the developers. (Actually I can, but the re-installed, previous version immediately crashes.) I'll never update my other devices, but I'll miss using GW on this device. At least version 3 shows individual app usages for tapped sub-day data columns.
