Reviews for Boost for reddit
Under normal circumstances, I would recommend this app, it's great for browsing Reddit on a phone, it has all the features I want. But it struggles to load thumbnails quite often and is also slow at loading videos, despite my decent internet connection. It also often just stops loading thumbnails at all after a while of using it, and then I have to restart it, which usually makes it lose my place on the front page.
This app is fantastic - I was an Alien Blue holdout until my old iPhone died in 2018, and this thing has surpassed it for me. It's wonderfully customizable, and seems to genuinely value users. (Like, I just updated, and found that there was a new video player that I really didn't like. I just went into the settings, did a search, and was able to set it right back to the old one! It's marvelous, and I wish more developers treated such things similarly.)
I used Slide for a long time and I loved it, until it became broken recently. Many videos would no longer load. Then I realized that Slide hadn't been updated in years. After playing around in the settings with Boost I was able to get back some of the features similar to Slide, including changing long press for comments and adding color bars. Overall, the app runs very smoothly and is way more customizable. I've only begun to dig into the settings. I gladly gave the developer a few bucks
It used to be 5 stars, but I have to deduct one for the constant connection issues it has. This is my go-to Reddit app until it starts deciding to not load anything. Sometimes it takes several refreshes for a sub to load. Sometimes refreshing doesn't help at all, no matter what. I have issues every single day with it. Its become so annoying, I had to download a back-up app, Sync. I don't like it as much, but it at least provides consistent performance and succeeds when Boost fails.
Pretty solid reddit app. However, when swiping back to return to the previous page, there's a weird graphical glitch. You can get around this by using Android's pull from the side of the screen to go back function, but swiping is much more intuitive when it works. This issue began with the most recent Android version update a few months ago. I'm using a Pixel 3a.
Let me start off by saying I love this app. This is by far the best Reddit reader I've come across on Android. There's just a few minor things that keep me from rating 5 stars. I've noticed when pictures are really tall (like a comic strip) the picture doesn't maintain it's resolution. For some reason links will open the previous post I've viewed rather than the actual link. Sometimes gifs just refuse to play.
Edit: from others I've read that the connection error issue will stop if you log out and back in, and this worked for me! I feel it would be helpful for the developer to announce this though. Pretty great app, some difficulties but nothing major. However all day long I've been unable to use it, been seeing an error "connection issue" everytime I open it and it isn't my connection. I tried reinstalling and it didn't help. Hope it's fixed soon, this is the only Reddit app I like!
This app is truly a gift that keeps on giving. If I had to desribe it, it's a bunch of small features that seem insignificant in isolation but truly make for a great user experience as a whole. To list some things I've discovered so far... * the "back" button does not rewind your feed progress * hitting the "back" button again accidentally prompts you for confirmation before closing the app * when entering a thread from the "main feed" you can swipe right to quickly return to that "main feed"
