Reviews for WoW Companion
I've used this app on two phones, a Motorola and a Samsung, and haven't encountered any issues the other reviews talk about. I love the ability to "play" on the go so I don't have to use my computer every time I just want some idle earnings. Only issue is that I don't receive notifications from the app about when missions are complete until I actually open the app which is, at that point, useless. Otherwise good job, works great.
A lot of people seem to be complaining about staying logged in but my experience is that I stay logged in but if I leave the app for a while it just has to reload. Sometimes the auto login feature doesnt work so you just try again and it's fine. Good way to see quick news without having to google stuff and if you want to do your companion tables. For my experience I only do one character as switching between characters has a long load time so I kinda gave up on wasting time on alts.
It boils down to the armory. The 3D armory needs to return & I'd like to be able to use it as a dressing room to schedule what loot I need to focus on farming so that I'm not wasting time at my computer that could've been better spent on my phone when I have some down time but can't log in and play. Everything else is fine. It's just when I see the view character icon, I sigh and lament on what used to be and what could be much more robust. If the armory came back, I'd find a way to give 6 stars
I do not necessarily dislike the app, but I feel it doesn't serve a huge purpose. It only works on wifi, which really limits the mobility of the app(usually, the point of apps). As others have pointed out, the app (quite a while ago) would let you participate in the auction house. Now, it is only for the mission table. So, as long as you only need to focus on the mission table, it's a great app for those who are at home and too lazy to go to their computer or people using wifi & not data.
Generally the app works as expected. They've updated it considerably compared to the last expansions app. My biggest problem with it currently is that I'll receive a timeout server issue while connecting now without any workaround. The app also doesn't report to the User that all servers are down for maintenance until a certain time. The app needs to be more transparent.
In its current state, the app is mediocre at best. One of the largest mistakes made by blizzard was removing support for the in-game Auction House. However, in my opinion, the absolute WORST change to this app was removing the 3D character model viewer. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to check out my characters in great depth, on the go.
Severe input lag, sometimes to the point it doesn't appear to be working and I have to restart the app. Notifications do not work despite being enabled in the app. I've tried leaving the app running by not closing it and even disabled the "Battery Optimization" so that the phone system isn't restricting it, but still no notifications on mission completion.
Downloaded. Opened, closed, and reopened the app dozens of times. It is completely unusable. Stays on "verifying assets" and never gets past the loading screen. I get a connection error 100% of the time. UPDATE: Only works on wi-fi. Cannot find any way possible to use app on data service. So I can only use it at home.
*Edit Re: Blizz's comment. I checked that last night before posting the review. It had the correct one selected so I retried and failed to load chars as usual.. If this ever worked I would rate it 5 stars. I've successfully used it once or twice and it was slow, but great. Countless other attempts I am stuck on an endless character select screen. I gave up after timing 4 minutes at the blank character select screen. I've tried everything (that I know of) to fix it. Sad!
There are so many problems with this app, far after bfa has matured as an expansion: - World quests don't accurately reflect scaling, initial load time is atrocious (and sometimes even fails, which I attribute to maybe a timeout) - Swapping characters often results in 'Unable to Connect' (which I also assume is a timeout issue) - Hiring/accepting new followers to replace the dead ones sometimes hangs on pending the interaction - Finished quests will sometimes hang when accepting the result All of these issues have been present on both home wifi and Verizon's network (4g with full reception). This seems like a potential issue with high volume of calls made to whatever underlying API(s) are used, be it authentication or character data. I obviously can't confirm since I didn't build it... It's 2018, where VM architecture is to the point where you can rapidly spin up/down a load-balanced environment rapidly with Docker, Openstack, AWS, and God knows how many other virtualization utilities in order to scale on the fly... The tools are there Blizzard, and some don't even cost a thing to integrate... Please use them.
