Installation
When unpacking the archive with the file, you will be prompted to enter a password
- Download the XAPK installation application, e.g, APKPure or File Manager .
- Open the downloaded XAPK installation application and locate the downloaded XAPK file.
- Follow the instructions in the application to install the XAPK file.
- Allow installation from unknown sources: Go to 'Settings' > 'Security' (or 'Biosecurity & Safety') > enable 'Unknown sources' or 'Install from unknown sources' for your browser or file manager. On newer smartphone models, permission is requested when the individual file is installed and no unnecessary steps need to be performed..
- Install the APK file by following the on-screen instructions.
- Restore security settings by disabling permission to install from unknown sources.

Update has fixed the Android 12 problem! Leaving the decription of the problem for future reference: Been using this app for years but the Android 12 update has broken it (and most dimmers by the looks of it) in a severe way. Even with the overlay permission granted, having this app on prevents the use of the screen. It also appears the app can't get pitch black anymore and is being limited by the system's minimum brightness.
[Edit-latest update fixed the problem thanks!] Used this almost every evening for years with no issues, but it's apparently not compatible with the latest Android update. Blocks any other apps while running so you can't select anything- essentially you can't actually use your phone while it's active! 😭 Please fix this, I miss this app!
