Reviews for Wire - Secure Messenger
This could be a really awesome app but it has one flaw that is hard to get over. The app does not allow you to change the text notification sound. The default sound is very hard to hear and I miss a lot of messages because of it. I contacted tech support and they said it was a bug and they were fixing it. Then they told me to was fixed and to download and update but it is not fixed. It still has no option for changing notification sounds. It seems minor but if you are not hearing your messages it makes the app worthless. I wanted to rate this five stars otherwise. It has excellent features, they just need to fix the notifications.
This is the best secure messaging app I could find, but not because it's so great, but because competitors suck even more. They either insist on using your phone number as identifier (Signal et al) or drain your battery (Antox). Problems with this app include extremely inconvenient key verification process and inconsistent notification time. I have not seen hour-long notification delays like other users, but a few minutes is not uncommon.
Needs work — maybe a lot I'm really glad that Wire works at all, she that is open source. Was trying to get something temporary while Signal was down. It's buggy as can be though. The signup process failed twice. It feels like a beta or alpha. The interface is kind of weird and the background is way too busy. With a slight redesign and some bug fixes I am sure Wire could do better but this isn't a 5 star app right now.
pros and cons: I like little details: appearance, keyboard, chat message rather than text since it allows you to see when the other person is texting back, has read the message, message delivered. etc. but what I don't like is it doesn't work unless you have a decent signal, failed messages don't automatically resend, the camera through text is zoomed in, nothing about screenshot notifications: I would like to know when/if someone has taken a picture of my messages, pictures, etc.
Changing review. Used this for nearly 5 years and it very slowly got worse. Dev support MIA. IT WAS FREE so I will not complain. I stuck with it longer than most others but finally had to move on several months ago, and frankly glad that we did. Notifications were always a problem. Delivery issues. There was huge potential here. Oh well.
Has some of the most features of a messaging app that I've tried out, but no matter what i do (uninstall/reinstall, reset push notifications) i can't get it to send notifications when i receive a message. I have to manually check the app every so often just to see if someone sent me a message. Even then it takes time to refresh and show messages. +2 stars for the abundant features. -3 for missing one of the features that matters most.
It advertises that this is available for any system. I have an older Android and it says that I have it installed AND that it is not compatible with any of my devices. Very disappointing. You should uodate your description to say which systems it is actually compatible with. Many people are not caught up in the mindless frenzy of changing their perfectly good hardware every time something new comes out, which is every 6-12 months.
This app worked perfectly fine a few months ago, but since more recent updates it constantly freezes, will not sync with desktop at all after I tried to reinstall the app (desktop version works great), crashes often, and occasionally won't even open. I wouldn't be as frustrated by this if it hadn't been working fine for almost a year prior to these recent updates.
After the latest update I wasn't able to text any longer from my phone. The text field was gone. I had to reinstall the app. I tried to sync the app from Settings - Advance and there is no visual aid which tells me that the app is performing the synchronization. I would expect to see something instead. Moreover I could click the sync button many more times without getting a warning. Is the synchronization happening at all? Please fix this app.
Since the update I'm having the horrible freezing issue like many other users. The app is pretty much unusable. I am using a galaxy S7 device. Joined beta program and nothing changed.. so I left. It freezes every time I send a message for a few seconds it is very irritating. Started 2 updates ago. Also noticed if I open the app while Bluetooth is connected it kills my Bluetooth connection... Please fix!!! This sucks!! I wish I could give zero stars.
