Reviews for Star Wars™: Galaxy of Heroes
Really easy to get into and the progression system is incredibly well developed and fun to play through. The daily challenges and player objectives also serve as a great motivator, giving you the ability to recieve more crystals, energy, or other rewards. However, over the past 2 years I've encountered several glitches while playing that have soured my enjoyment of SWGOH. From the loading screen freezing to just stopping in the middle of a fight, they ruin the game and are still happening.
Great game, have played it for years. Have spent roughly 50 dollars as the big hero bundle was 50% off and it was beyond worth it for me. I see folks complaining about crashes but they don't say what phone their using or if they have background programs. Stop all background apps before playing. Older phones may struggle but technology is always like that. The power creep I don't like. Datacrons seem to push whales ahead more but my 100 to 120k power teams can still win. Team synergy is key.
Loved this game. The competitive nature of it was great and the ability to play relatively free was awesome. But pooling all of the resources into grand arena and then continuing to add more things on top of the already steep farming curve has made me lose interest. First it was gear. Then it's relics. Now it's omicrons and datacrons. Give the game a few months and it will be something new that totally invalidates your teams.
The game claims it's free to play. But to be able to compete in the newest additions to the game and go up against the newly released characters, you practically have to spend money. If you want to compete in the game, plan to spend hundreds of dollars monthly to keep up with the power and requirement creep. Updated to 1 star after the addition of datacron mechanics. The game is heading into a direction of lottery/gambling.
The game now either stops or pauses any music/podcasts in the background. This kills the game for me as I always liked to play while listening to music, now I can only play in silence... Or not at all. Also, waaaay too many in game ads for in game purchases. Seriously, every time you return to the home screen of the game, another ad pops up. Edit: fixed the background audio issue, ads remain hellacious.
When the game crashes in the middle of a battle, you'll log a ticket. Customer service will tell you that lots of people are experiencing crashes, but they won't do anything to make it better. EA and Capital Games are trash. Update:Still buggy and prone to crashes. On Conquest node 2 the final battle freezes during the duals. Eventually the attack buttons stop showing on screen and then you time out and lose wasting your energy.
Overall I like this game and have enjoyed it for the most part. My biggest issue is the ships. They are almost unplayable unless you pay. The progression is incredibly slow and extremely unbalanced, while the resources that are earned from it are insufficient. They stick you behind walls which require you to almost completely change your team while starving you of resources, with little way to gain in power to overcome the wall. If they were to fix the ships I would give the game a 4 star.
Not worth getting anymore. They've made this app about one thing, and that's money. The gameplay itself has fallen off dramatically. They've tried fixing the grand arena several times and imo its as bad as its ever been now. New characters put into the game are only useful if you pay for them, otherwise, you'll have to wait months to a year to have the character be useful. Theres an advertisement to get you to spend money after EVERY SINGLE THING YOU DO. I gave it a 2 out of 5 (generous)
The game is a neverending grind. The reward system is pathetic. Gameplay is repetitive. Hero upgrading is overly complicated. You're severely limited with gameplay, as once you burn your game tokens you have to wait hours to do anything else. Most of the game stays locked until you've invested a regrettable amount of time into it. Not only all that, but the characters and their ai are dumb. The game is hard on new players. Making them want to quit after the first few games.
In the beginning, this game was not bad. But, as you progress there is character imbalance and ridiculous unfair game play. You can have optimal maxed out characters and you'll still get beat by a simple group of Ewoks or novice character set. Worst of all, as you gain crystals (money), the system automatically changes to increase its price range to prevent you from buying gear and other such items. Looking to initiate a class action suit if all possible. Wasted money and time on this game.
