Reviews for Hotspot Shield VPN: Fast Proxy
I've had to uninstall and reinstall over and over but this last time, the app said that it didn't recognize my account. I contacted customer support and they said they had fixed the issue. It was working until they closed my trouble ticket. Now I have a monthly AND yearly subscription. This app is extremely frustrating and there's pop up ads every 2 minutes. If I could give a no star review I would at this point.
Worked fantastically for a long time, I'm talking a steady 2-3 years, but recently there was an update that adds many bad things. You can only connect for 30 minutes at a time, then you are obligated to watch an ad. You also get sporadic ads whenever you open apps now or first turn it on. There are many better options, wouldn't reccomend.
This is a great app. Dont get me wrong, but I am having a constant issue, and I am tired of it. Everytime this app crashes I have to go into settings and actually force stop the app for me to continue with anything. It only happens after a couple of minutes after the shield has been activated. It bugs me and this need to be fixed.
The mobile app works pretty much perfectly, but the desktop app needs some work. If for whatever reason I need to disconnect from the vpn, I cannot reconnect because it thinks I'm already connected. Furthermore the 'disconnect' button doesn't even work, so I have to force close it, leading to that bug. Again that's only on the desktop version, but it's worth looking into.
The vpn works like it should, but it is incredibly frustrating to use. Especially recently, the amount of advertising is overwhelming. Every time I switch apps, I have to watch an ad and watch a 5 second screen tell me that "my session is is ready to proceed." Even just swiping down to look at my notifications, if there is a snapchat notification, I get an ad. I don't even have to click on it, just the fact that the notification is there makes me watch an ad. Too hard to use for it to be worth.
I've been pretty happy with Hotspot Shield. I began using the program for Windows on my laptop and waa happy with the product. I went on to try the Android app and was happy to see that the program waa just as simple, straightforward, and easy to use. The app is set up and ready to go after install, you login with your credentials and from there it takes one click to switch the VPN on. You also get features to help keep your WiFi connection secure along with malware detection. Worth a look.
This VPN does two things very well: Speed and avoiding blocked content on WiFi. And that's pretty much all you really need. If you're looking for something actually secure that you can actually trust, I highly recommend buying a paid VPN that can actually be trusted. I do have one issue with this VPN, and it wasn't really an issue until the newest update. I don't mind ads on a free product. But having a short video play every single time you open something that requires internet is overkill.
unsatisfactory For such a popular free app I was surprised at how irritating it was to use in practice. Way too many annoying ads. Any input by me results in an ad which I had no interest in popping up. I understand you get what you paid for (nothing) but this is beyond anything I've ever experienced. I'm going back to any of a variety of free VPN's that are available.
While it technically gets the job done, in a recent update they bombard you with ads to the point where I am going to a different VPN. It will open an ad nearly everytime you open an app and when you use the skip bar for say soundcloud. I also think it's causing my soundcloud to crash because it doesn't crash when the VPN is off. I don't mind ads but this is absolutely ridiculous. I'm giving it 1 star even though it works because I would not want anyone to download this, there is much better.
I love the desktop version so I thought I'd try the app and it is awful. You're limited by time (30 min) instead of data usage and with an ad popping up every time I do anything or don't do anything (ad would pop up everytime I receive a notification from Facebook, email, etc then take two additional seconds to tell me I can go back to browsing, and then giving me yet another ad when I go to check said notification), it is literally unusable. Such a shame since the desktop version is awesome.
