Reviews for AlReader -any text book reader
Reliable, easy to use, does everything I need. I've used it for over 5 years on 3 different phones and it worked perfectly in all cases. I've read 100+ books on it too. The only feature that would be nice that's not there already is pinch zooming on book cover images or the images of maps of the book's world found in a number of books. Setting the app up initially takes a bit of time as there are a lot of options, but this means it can do just about everything everyone using it is likely to need
Not the easiest to learn at first, and scrolling isn't smooth, but the selling point of the TTS is pretty great. It doesn't sound like a human, but rarely any words are mispronounced, even most made-up words and names, and spacing between words is quite natural. It speaks clearly and words sound even, like they're actually being said as a sentence or full word rather than individual syllables. I use this to read to me before bed when I'm trying not to look at a screen, pretty good so far.
My default and favorite book reader app in most cases. Pros: Small, light, fast and lots of custom options. Almost perfect! Cons: - Incomplete support for txt files with GB18030 encoding (Simplified Chinese), turns up gibberish at times. Will need to convert file to UTF-8 or use a different book reader. - Directory sorting is underwhelming to sort numerous folders by last accessed date etc (I used third-party file manager to look for file and open using AIReader to overcome this problem).
