Reviews for Solid Explorer File Manager
The only way to manage files. It has a double pane for easily organizing by copying or moving files. And so much more, including integration with cloud storage. It should be a default app. And yes, you can use it on a Chrome book too. You won't regret paying to remove ads.
absolutely brilliant! I've been a computer & software engineer for 40 years, and I've seen some TERRIBLE user interfaces. Solid Explorer is very well designed, it's easy to find all of the functions, and the main reason i bought it was to easily transfer or view files & folders from my windows network. connection to my server's shared folders was quick and easy, just tap a few buttons. absolutely worth the asking price!
Great file explorer, has a lot of things, and works great. I like that includes the option for .noname files, hide folders from other apps, other apps will not see it. You can also copy the path of the folders, create ftp connections, easily see which files are using a lot of space, the list of options is huge.
Once I figured out how to move files from one storage source to another, (swipe the whole screen left or right), it's perfect! You can get to files that are otherwise hidden. The Dropbox and SMB support are flawless. It also has some handy built-in file viewers and a text editor. I don't know how people get by without it.
I love this but for one thing - it identifies my thumb drive as two different devices, then pops up permissions errors about the second "device". It doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that it's working right, but it seems to be. Other than that this is beautifully implemented. I use X-plore for the bulk of my file management but was curious about this one because of the way it can group files. I won't have much use for this until it's fixed.
The app used to be fine. It made me use and transfer files easily, but lately, all my Google Drives except for two do not work at all. I have been trying to find out why without success. I can access them on my laptop and phone, but the Solid Explorer refuses to let me add them. I use my password, it works, it sends me a code, it works, and then it says: "There was a problem while trying to log you in. Here is the server message: null." What does that even mean? Is it Solid Explorer that has a problem? My other Drives that have been connected for a while still work well. I have no idea what the issue is.
Solid Explorer is my favorite Android File Manager, and I have used it on other devices. However, I have had consistent problems with SE on my Chromebook. Soon after the initial install, it would freeze up, and I would need to close the app and restart it for it to work again. Currently it's main problem is that after the last upate it won't connect to Google Drive, and I have not yet been able to determine why. My rating will improve once the app is fully funcionaly again.
The software itself works really well but it has repeatedly forgotten that I paid for it. This is at least the third time that the app has updated and then decided I was using a free trial instead of the full version. Their workarounds never work and I always end up having to reinstall the app and recreate my settings. This happens often enough that I'm thinking of switching to another app.
Great file explorer, but currently the Amazon S3 cloud setup seems buggy. After entering credentials, the app just crashes when attempting to access cloud storage. Persists through reinstalls and everything. Mainly use this app for cloud access, so until it's fixed, it's pretty useless, personally. Still unfixed over a year later.
This app has been a life saver for my connections to my local PC's. However, on July 5th 2022, all my LAN connections have stopped working. These same LAN connections are working fine in my other cumbersome android file manager apps, so it must be a SE bug from a recent update. As-is my workflow has halted, so I'll change my review back to 5 stars when SE actually responds with a useful solution.
