Description

Google Text-to-Speech is a useful application for mobile phones with the Android operating system, the main function of which is to read the text from the screen of your smartphone. The program was created by Google Corporation and works well with other Google products such as Google Play Books, Google Translate and many others. You can download Google Text-to-Speech absolutely free.

General description

If you want to get acquainted with the work of famous writers, but you do not have time or opportunities to spend a lot of time with a book in your hands, just turn on the speech synthesizer and enjoy the sound display of the text. Likewise, you can easily learn the correct pronunciation of foreign words by synchronizing the Text-to-Speech with Google Translate or other apps in the Play Market.

The most important option of the Synthesizer is the ability of blind or visually impaired people to use their mobile phone at the same level as people with good eyesight. It is fully synced with TalkBack assistive technology, allowing you to quickly control all smartphone functions without looking at the screen.

To enable or disable the application, just go to the "Language and input" section in the settings menu of your smartphone, then go to the "Speech synthesis" subsection and activate or deactivate the program. Google Text-to-Speech supports most of the popular languages: English, Italian, Spanish, Russian, German, French and others.

Merits

  • Excellent optimization of work on all devices with Android OS;
  • Working with multiple languages;
  • The minimum number of settings and ease of enabling / disabling program functions;
  • Synchronization with other Google products;
  • Ability to edit the speech rate for the convenience of users;

I have encountered almost every problem in the reviews. Endless notification update,never updates. ( Update to this post; initially prediction is better, speed is improved, text to speech is better/faster. Seems to be more accurate. Doesn't seem to be any lag. Give me time to test drive it and could change to a 5 ⭐.

JUNE 2022: Seems fixed finally! I rely on this app daily. It's been working well with excellent text correction once context realized. Needs better formatting, i.e., new paragraph. PRIOR: Horribly buggy for months! 1. Issue with constantly downloading. 2. Since my Galaxy S10+ upgraded to Android 12, the keyboard is half black & white in dark mode and there are 2 options: voice and legacy. Only legacy displays correctly. 3. Prediction is off with random, incorrect uppercase of words. Please fix!

No longer does it try to update endlessly! However I too have the" oh,, bug I see mentioned elsewhere. I used to be fine, for the longest time, and then suddenly started doing it. Still, a functional app, as much as any speech to text functions can be. This review was written using text-to-speech only. All typos are the work of the speech services by Google, but it seems to be doing pretty good!

I'm cautiously optimistic here, and hope calling attention to this doesn't jinx it, BUT... I finally decided to click "update" again after letting this sit unacknowledged for two months. So far, on three different devices, no further stuck "waiting for download" messages. It's been about nine days and so far so good. If this problem re-appears I'm just gonna go get a Microsoft Surface and be done with it. I hear Nokia still makes a Windows phone as well. It's a shame that's my next option.

Would give negative stars if possible, having the same bug as everyone else. I just uninstalled all the updates and do not allow the app to auto-update. Haven't had any issues with voice-to-text, Samsung Xcover Pro. Edit: I changed my default keyboard to the Samsung one instead of the Google GBoard and installed app update, and that seems to have resolved the stagnant download problem.

Whatever the recent changes are either to Android or to this app or it's related apps for speech recognition and speech to text? There is a significant lag particularly in the messenger app between what is spoken and what appears on the screen. And I use this less and less because of the massive amount of scrolling and correcting I have to do. Since I can't catch errors on the fly.

Sometime is wrong with this update. When i do text to speech for some reason it skips the first 1 to 3 words of each sentence. This makes the app functionally unusable for reading pdfs, which is what I use this for. As this is an accessibility service for the blind and key for those with dyslexia, this is unacceptable. This needs to be fixed, now.

Keeps trying to auto update no matter what setting I set. It wants a wifi connection to update and I rarely ever have a wifi connection, so it spends hours, days and weeks trying to update no matter what setting I choose. I uninstalled it because it definitely isn't working properly and constantly gets in the way.

This service was never bulletproof, but with the latest updates, one can see that it's clearly broken. It will get words right at first, only to then cycoe through until it lands on a bizarre incorrect conclusion. It will randomly capitalize words that have no business being captiiazed in the English language. It will misinterrupt common words so absurdly that the end result is amusing to read. It has become exceptionally unreliable as of late, which is a shame because it used to work so well.
