Reviews for Phonograph Music Player
I don't often leave reviews, but I'll make an exception. Was looking for an alternative to Google music. YT music was horrible with intrusive money grabs. Phonograph is great, straight forward and doesn't bury your music under menu after menu. It's actually better than Google music in someways to include selecting multiple songs at once for Playlist creation and saving the Playlist as a file, something that Google music couldn't do as far as I know. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
Like many I was forced to migrate away from Google Play Music. Gave YouTube Music a chance and no way! So tried Simple Music Player but even when the dev just recoded his player it had issues I couldn't overlook (he's other apps are amazing though btw). So I finally ran into Phonograph and wow. Its everything I could've asked for! Best of all, it has a setting to fix low res album covers that I've been dealing with! I'll donate when I get the chance!
This is a great app. I wanted it for offline use. It has all the features I need. I was able to create a Playlist on my laptop, right click in the Playlist, open the file location, and drag it to my cellphone Playlist folder. This app recognize it and all audio files including voice messages (not sure how to skip those) Highly recommend.
The app is really great and looks fantastic, but it has some minor bugs that keep me from switching over entirely. All album thumbnails are replaced by random images on my phone when I'm scrolling through them all on the "Albums" page. Disabling media store covers as recommended per the GitHub page resolves the issue, sure, but it isn't ideal for everyone. Lack of casting support is a real bummer too. Only real feature the app is lacking!
Just started using it. I like it but there is a bug when streaming to a Bluetooth device. The current time in the song gets reset each time you restart(continue) the song. So for example I listen to 15:00 mins of a 45 min song, turn off my car, then start my car the phone time (and song) starts at 15:00 mins, but the time displayed on my car is set to 0:00. Hope this makes sense.
I would like this app more if I didn't have to keep reinstalling it. This is the 3rd time I have had to do so, it keeps crashing. Also a fast forward or rewind button would be nice; if I'm listening to a long podcast and miss something it is hard to just go back 20 seconds. Otherwise this is a pretty solid app for a local music library.
So i got this app for the OnePlus 6T, since it doesn't have its own player. Y'know, it plays music, but what really crawls under my skin is the Favorites playlist and playlists in general. The function of adding songs to a playlist or Favorites works, but when I go in to add new songs, I'd find that that playlist gone. Disappeared. This happened at least three times. So I thought it'd be safe to turn a regular playlist into my Favorites playlist. Nope. Playlist also disappeared. 400 songs. Gone.
If you just need to download an app to play music, this works fine. If you want a music app that crashes, can't make playlists (despite having the menus and drop-downs to do so), never makes sense of your file directories, and can't delete your music in-app, then Phonograph is really the one for you.
I just paid money for this app, spent over an hour thinking I was loading a Playlist with songs only to discover it was empty. Also, completely unintuative. I paid specifically because I thought it would allow me to simply select folders, but it seems to only allow me to "blacklist" ones. Maybe this feature is possible, but if something so simple isn't obvious in the main settings it's not worth wasting my time to have to learn how to work a basic music player. Will be demanding a refund.
Rotten. Can't tell it where to find my music. Forces you to download to phone, like that's gonna give you a lot of music to which to listen. After downloading to the phone location it lists as one of the scan areas that you cannot modify, it still can't find my music when I run the "scan media" operation. Free on Google Play Pass or not, too much trouble.
