Ever since the last update this app has gotten pretty bad, its now much slower to load, slow to update, notifications don't show up unless you close the app few times, the page refreshes on its own and it only shows some past posts from others, then jumps way back to weeks ago. I was afraid an app like this would take a wrong turn after success, please go back to how it was, can't even use chat without dropping the calls randomly.

Good app overall. Easy to chat people, exchange learning, and more. The big issue is the notifications. Daily push notifications for events and groups I've never visited and have no interest. In the latest update, it's now sending notifications similar to actual chats, only you will find it's not a chat, it's HelloTalk's system. There's no way to filter out non-chat notifications, which is quickly driving me to just disabling all notifications which will inevitably mean not using the app.

Good app, but I noticed a bug recently. When I subscribed to VIP, the second language I selected as learning was Korean. After unsubscribing, I'm never allowed to switch back to learning Korean from my primary learning language (Chinese - Simplified). The message always says "You can't learn the same language twice: 한국어" despite the 48 hour rule saying I should be able to switch. Do try and fix this as it makes wanting to use the app very frustrating!

I've been using this app for 6 years and I've met a few friends here. What's really unique about this app is its system for correcting mistakes, translations, and transliterations. It has everything you need to self study for free. It can be a bit buggy and lag between messages. You can also post questions on the moments section which is useful if you want your question answered right away. The big downside is that more then half the time, people are just looking for "dating."

HelloTalk is fun. I already speak a second language, so I’m not able to review any of the language practice features. I mainly use HelloTalk to connect with native speakers of my second language locally using the “search nearby” feature. It’s not a common language, so HelloTalk is nice. I have made a couple friends. However, the “search nearby” feature is a paid feature, and it’s quite expensive for what is included. Especially since there is no way to know how many people are nearby until you pay over $100 USD. It is also hit or miss because, like any app, there’s the potential your partner won’t respond or will only want to speak the language they’re learning. Additionally, HelloTalk really should introduce some sort of ID verification process like a lot of other similar apps have done. There are scam artists on HelloTalk using fake photos which could easily be avoided by adding an option for users to verify themselves like any other app that connects strangers.

It's cool. I get to meet people from all over the world and exchange languages. The only thing I wish would stay are the messages if one were to delete and reinstall the app. Also, the option to delete messages on both sides, in the direct message, like what Instagram and Facebook has. Other than that, I can't complain. Thanks for your hardwork, T eam.

A cool but unusable app. At first I was on this app constantly and it was so, so helpful to my language learning because I was able to get quick, valuable feedback from native speakers. After a while though, the messaging system stopped working completely. I still got notifications, but when I opened the app I could not see any messages. I don't want to install the beta version on my phone, which was their only solution. So I am giving 1 star and uninstalling until it is fixed.

i keep getting annoying ads/promotions in my notifications that are sent as messages. this is very annoying. i shouldnt be getting ads if im not even on the app. i cant even turn them off without also turning off notifications for all messages. so annoying. and then when i am typing for some reason my entire message gets deleted and i have to start over when trying to post. i am also frustrated by the fact that we cant stop the bots from messaging us too. im considering deleting.

I really like the concept - it makes it super easy to learn from native speakers (the best way!). I really don't like how the app limits how much you can translate, and I have to either pay, or take an extra step and use Google/Microsoft. You can't even just remove the translate button; each time I tap a message instead of holding it, I'm presented with an ad to pay for the app. It calls itself free to communicate, but it's not as free as it sounds.

it seems like a really good app for learning. I just scroll through and correct English. I think it is great for people who have a start in the language (at least self introduction) and want to improve further. It might be difficult for someone with absolutely no experience to begin on this app since it is just talking with others more familiar with the language. I highly recommend it 😃
