Reviews for eReader Prestigio: Book Reader

This is actually the best app I've ever found for reading my pdf books to me! First of all, it's absolutely gorgeous - the interface is beautiful. They made it look like a little library. Next, you have the option of buying some special voices or using the Google voice. The app scans for file types it can read to you and it's really convenient and easy to use. 5 stars isn't enough for this fun, useful, and time-saving app. Definitely a multitasker's dream app!

A very useful App with a TTS reader. Though, I wish I could pre-select a default voice that's not a system voice. As it is, I have to scroll through tons of voices every time I start the app or open a new book, which is a huge pain. Also, I have lots of difficulty verifying my email. It just doesn't say what the problem is.

Great app. I love reading but I don't always have time for it. So this really helps bridge the gap when I have other things that I need to do. There are customizations for the voices and a night mode which is great for reading in bed. Only problem that I seem to have encountered was that it will occasionally skip a page when the voice is reading but that could be due to my book, not the app.

Unable to find a way to get my Echo or Google Home speaker to read PDF files to me (because I like to "read" books with my eyes closed sometimes), I decided to give eReader Prestigio a try. After stumbling around for a minute or two in the app's interface, I found the voice controls. Once I got the thing going, it was just a matter of testing about a dozen voices before finding one that was fairly intelligible. The next challenge was finding out how to resume the voice reader other than at the very beginning, for which, I discovered, there are at least two methods. Fortunately, I'm able to Bluetooth (yes, I'm making "Bluetooth" a verb -- or should it be "Blutooth?") the audio from my Android phone and tablet to my Google Home Mini smart speaker so I can listen to the pdf file on it. It all works fairly well -- except for one annoying detail: when I re-start eReader Prestigio, it doesn't remember which voice I so painstakingly had chosen (therefore 4 stars instead of 5). One other small matter (too small to affect the rating): the new FAQ link doesn't work (maybe because they haven't updated to a secure, https site?). When all is said and done, I'm actually rather impressed with this app.

09/11/2021: UPDATE What have you done to one of my favorite apps? This whole issue with the timer on audio might end up being a deal breaker. I am NOT spending $60-150+ for an unlocked timer TTS yearly subscription. Forget about it. 10/20/2020: I've been using this book reader for about 3 years. Personally, I think the text-to-speech feature sets it apart from other readers, and I use it quite often.

When it works.. it works well. As long as you don't click or push any other buttons you can enjoy your book. As soon as you click something though... you're sucked into an advertising vortex that is difficult to escape from without shutting down the app and starting from scratch. Luckily it will save your place in the book if you were wise enough to choose that option during setup.

My only complaint is not being able to edit more details of my books. Sometimes the author has their last name and then first name, sometimes first name and then last name for multiple books which I would like to be able to fix. The biggest issue however is that I can't edit the series tab. I have 5 books from one series and they're all listed as being three different series altogether, and I hate that I can't just make them into one series. Otherwise it's the best E-Reader app I've ever used.

Frankly I loved everything about it until it came to the actual reading of one of my books. I love to be able to just vertically read the pages, but that "bounce" animation is incredibly annoying, unless I keep my finger on the page, the animation just bounces the page upward and I lose track of where I am and I just hate it, and I don't understand why I can't change that.

I cannot change the voice in my phone's tts settings; I used to be able to so, so I could use all of the voices in other apps, but something changed and I am left with only one voice, and a not so good one at that. This app used to let me use the wavenet voices across my phone's setting with access to all of the wavenet voices, but now it doesn't, so I have to look else where. It was totally worth the money when it was working as it did.

With each update the app gets more cumbersome and anti-consumer. The most recent update added a sleep timer to the text-to-speech feature, which while possibly helpful if you intend to fall asleep listening to audiobooks or something, the developer made it such that you cannot turn off the sleep feature, meaning that the text-to-speech will automatically stop after an hour no matter what you do. Considering this is the only reason I really use the app, not good.
