Reviews for Drops: Language Learning Games
Phenomenal app. Learning easily due to illustrations, animations that are easily understood. I am also learning to write the language as am learning as well. There are challenges in the app in which I am given two choices as to what a word or phrase is. It is truly beneficial to my learning. In my opinion this app is top notch and very well worth the price. One year later....I bought a lifetime premium membership to DROPS. I love this app.
This is a nicely designed app that gamifies learning Italian vocabulary. I appreciate how they keep it up-to-date and address issues that arise. I use the free version and I am as a programmer impressed with how they have set it up to encourage people to willing view ads. I'm 170 some days in and probably am about 2/3 through the modules.
I've used this app for a while now. The graphics are decent for the most part, but they're just simple drawings. And some are confusing. The main issue is that some audio doesn't match the written vocabulary. And there's no logical progression based on level. It's supplementary and good for that, but I wish they had Haitian Creole.
It's not a perfect app. If you really want to learn a language, you're going to need a lot of other resources. This app doesn't help much with grammar, for instance. But I've tried a lot of ways to grow my vocabulary, and I always found that the words I learned on Drops stuck in my memory best. So I came back to it. The visual and sound aspects work great for vocab practice and have proved the best supplement to my 1:1 lessons with my teacher elsewhere.
It's a good app for learning the basics. It's designed to really stick in your head. For Some languages it doesn't give you the alphabet but over all it's pretty solid. Don't expect to be able to form perfect sentence or anything but it's a good start. Feels more like a game and that makes me more enjoyable
Overall the app is fine. The interface is easy to use/understand and there are decent selection of categories/subcategories to choose from. They also periodically add more vocabulary and categories. My biggest complaint so far is how they teach verbs. For example taberu means "to eat" and oyogu means "to swim" and from there you need to know how to conjugate it depending how your using them. Instead this app wrongly teaches people and says taberu means "I eat" and oyogu means "I swim".
There's a lot of information but it throws complicated phrases out immediately and moves incredibly fast within the ap. Like you see a full sentence and work through it and before you can absorb the information when you get it correct it moves on insanely fast to the next slide (and this is coming from someone who learns languages easily). It doesn't allow for absorption. To top it off, unsubscribing is really difficult.
Occasionally, for a few days, I have a problem where drops freezes while I'm on a lesson/I'm able to scroll thru options but not able to select anything after opening the app for a few seconds. Even after reinstalling. I think it can also be improved if the review dojo has a flag option as sometimes there are wrong translations but no quick way to report them. Also, I have the furigana on all the time option for Japanese, but there are quite a few words where it doesn't appear.
I want to try it, but it when it won't let me close out of the trial option? I understand free gets you less, but I rather avoid putting in my payment info just to immediately turn the trial off. On desktop and mobile, and it won't let me try it without doing this at all. It says free ok the front, but being unable to try it without a trial that includes giving our payment info is not great. If this is fixed in the future, I gladly look forward to trying again!
Used to love the app. However, since the last overhaul to the look of the app, it has been soooo slow. Even tried uninstalling and reinstalling, which didn't help at all actually made it worse, and now the app is basically unusable. And to make matters worse I was using this app with my 8yr old niece and we have a 299day streak together, which now we will lose because the app won't load. It's going to crush her. I paid for a lifetime account for this?!!😡
