Bikini Bottom 3D Mod is a 3D collectible platformer similar to many of the licensed games from the early 2000s. As SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy, you have to run around collecting items and fighting monsters. The design of the world is pretty good from a visual point of view. You feel like you are in the very same Bikini Bottom pictured on the show. Most of the music comes straight from the cartoon, and characters and enemies feel right in place as well, with most voices going back in time. As soon as you go through the SpongeBob set, Rehydration will start to plummet. The controls are at least stable, providing players with various options to help you explore. Attacking enemies can sometimes cut you off at the very edge of your range and still punch. Meanwhile, a steep jump can take you to the very edge of what is only possible to send SpongeBob into the bottomless pit of despair.

In the last slip test, the camera is positioned so high that you cannot see the oncoming turns, even if they are not blocked by bright particle effects and algae. When you run, you collect "shiny things" that open up certain areas. The problem is that these areas are not always optional and prices can be insanely high. There is also a whole bunch of collectibles that you can only get by paying excessive amounts of these items to Mr. Crabbs. This means that periodically you need to exit levels to go and hunt down a random collectible. Then there is a change of characters. Each playable hero has special abilities that must be used to progress. However, you can only swap characters in certain areas. Sometimes this means teleporting back and forth to change characters if there is no exchange point nearby. In the worst case, this was when completing some tasks in the late game. In some cases, you just need to guess who you should be.

One of the most interesting additions to the Bikini Bottom 3D Mod is the new multiplayer mode. In this mode, you choose one of 7 playable characters (some are exclusive to this mode) and fight your way through waves of enemies, fighting a robotic version of Squidward. It's nice that there is additional content, but this time it might have been better to spend the time improving the single player game. The mode repeats quickly and takes too long to be interesting. When you die, your character simply freezes and a hand raises you. Nine times out of ten, the hand position is completely wrong.
