This is one of those essential apps. Works as as expected without failing, which is great. Just have an issue with focusing the camera when being close to a barcode, the auto focus button seems to be a bit useless on my device. I get passed this by blocking the camera and the opening it, then it refocusses and on most cases works good.

Just con counteract the negative. I have used this for years, and whilst it did have a few issues when I first started using a Samsung S10 these sorted them selves out, so I suspect it was samsung/os issues more than the app. Anyway its free and it works so try it.

Great app and simple to use. +1 for the open source!. However could the app be updated to latest Android built? I am running Android 11 and it's running on compatibility mode. Permissions should be updated to the latest Android. This would allow to ask for permission on the time of the action and for the specific acction (like contact access when sharing a contact) instead of having to provide permissions by default. This would provide a lot of clarity for the users and give a better feedback.

Developers, stop shooting yourselves in the foot! Why? Simply because of your silly decision in disabling, as a standard, those which are essential features for any barcode scanner: AUTO EXPOSURE and AUTO FOCUS!! I mean, why having those disabled from the moment this app is installed for crissake?? For you new user who might be already driven to dispair (as I was) as to why this "crappy" app won't just scan anything, there you have it. Just go to "settings" and enable those ASAP and "voilá": you have a fully-working barcode scanner! Some bad decision!

Requests access to contacts for some reason and does not work properly if not allowed to do so (kinda sus)... Uninstalled and got the scanner by cognex instead. It worked perfectly without needing "extra" permissions such as contacts... Use that instead

This use to be the best and fastest barcode scanner by far. Lately it is struggling to scan normal 2D barcodes. In the past it scanned codes even before the camera was done focusing. Now you will be lucky if it scans at all. I am really disappointed to see such a great, simple and easy app failing behind. I now use different apps that also uses zxing interface/code and it works.

It not only runs on background, but it also pop ups a "Allow Barcode Scanner the following permissions? Read your contacts". Like, why in the world would a barcode scanner app need to read my contacts? Plus, this happened out of nowhere, I didnt even open the app, I installed it like 3 months ago. I will obviously report this app.

Zork Fromork

"Was" but no longer "Is". As another reviewer found, this is not compatible with Android 11. It works perfectly on all previous versions but the camera view only shows a small area of the upper left of the window. I have not tested on iOS but some blogs are stating that it doesn't work for newer versions on the Apple side. I lost 2 weeks of development time before I confirmed the issue with 11 and will have to find and refector a new barcode reader into my phone app.
